Biography
Jean Daigle called Lallemand ("the German") was born in 1746 in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, Canada, Nouvelle-France, to Charles François Daigle (1714-1769) and Marie Anne Roger (1718-1758). The baptismal record calls him "Jean Marie," as does his marriage contract.[1] On his marriage record, however, he called himself "Jean B.," and the burial act calls him "jean baptiste." The baptismal act of his son Pierre calls him "Jean Daigle." The baptismal act of his son André calls him "Jean M. Lallemand," the nickname because of his German-speaking settler ancestor.
Jean's mother died in 1758 when he was 11 years old. His father did not remarry. He died in 1769 when Jean was 23 years old.
