Biography

Paul Daigre was born in 1741 in Pisiguit, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, son of Jean Baptiste Daigre (1698–1759) and Marie Anne Breau (1706–~1759).^[1]

Around 1751, his parents decided to settle on Isle Saint-Jean (present-day Prince Edward Island). At 11 years of age, he is on the 1752 census taken at Rivière-du-Moulin-à-Scie, Ile-Saint-Jean, Acadia, with his parents and siblings.^[2]

Paul and his family were deported to France in 1758 aboard one of the infamous "Five English ships" (Yarmouth, Patience, Mathias, Restoration, John Samuel). His mother Marie Anne and sister Isabelle died at sea during the crossing His father Jean died not long after arrival in France, leaving five orphans behind in a foreign country. ^[3][4]

Paul (19) married Geneviève Aucoin (15) (born in Acadie) on Apr 21, 1761 in Pleudihen, Bretagne. ^[1][5]

   In live stock, two oxen, five cows, one calf, and two pigs.
   The land upon which they are settled is situated as in the preceding case, it was given to them verbally by Monsieur de Bonnaventure. On the said land they have made a clearing of three arpents and a half in extent where they have sown half a bushel of wheat and half a bushel of oats.
