Biography

Rebecca M. Dailey was born on June 26, 1822 in Tazewell County, Virginia, USA to Thomas Dailey and Sarah McIntosh Dailey. [1] Rebecca married on May 22, 1839 to her cousin, George Barton Greenup, b. June 16 1815, probably in Virginia. [2]

The death record of Rebecca and George's daughter Margaret in 1920, calls her father "Barton", which may be the name he preferred to use. It states he was born in Virginia, and his wife, identified only as "Daily" was also born in Virginia, USA. Margaret was born approximately 1841 in Illinois, and died at the age of 82 in Vermont, Fulton, Illinois. She was buried in the Bushnell cemetery. [3]

In a book called "Rural Cemeteries of McDonough County, Illinois", (Vol. VII) on page 42, is a section called "Genealogical Notes – Dailey Cemetery" that contains the following information about George Barton Greenup and his wife, Rebecca M. Dailey: GREENUP: George B. md. Rebecca M. Dailey in this county on May 22, 1839. George B. appears on the 1840 county tax list as #426; he owned no real estate; personal property consisted of $100 worth of horses, $80 cattle; $40 wagons; and $125 worth of other property; taxes for that year were $1.73. NOTE: Other Greenups appearing on that 1840 tax list were John (#413) and Thomas W. (#429). [4]

Rebecca Greenup can be found on the 1850 US census for McDonough County, Illiinois, living with her parents and siblings, and her two daughters, Malinda and Margaret, after the death of her husband, George Barton Greenup.
