Biography

Lewis Wilbur was born 2 May 1886 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, the son of Andrew Jackson Dailey and Emerilla Eshelman. About 1908 he married Edna Mae Scott, probably in Minnesota. They lived in Staples, Minnesota and had four children:

1. Wayne Wilbur (1910-1958)

2. Amy Ruth (1912-1996)

3. Clarence Arthur (1914-1995)

4. Amy Ruth (1912-1996)

Lewis and Edna were very different, they divorced between 1942 and 1945. Lewis married Amanda Henrietta (known as Mandy) between 1942 and 1948.

Lewis was the Chief of Police in Staples, Minnesota from 1945 to 1955, and was a member of the Staples volunteer fire department for many years.

Lewis had a heart attack and died at his home in Staples on 10 March 1956; he was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery at Staples.

Research Notes

Lewis and Edna were separated when their son Clarence was married in December 1942

in an interview with a relative was told they divorced while Clarence was gone in the army and didn't tell him

when Lewis's grandson Lew Dailey was old enough to talk in 1948, Mandy and Lewis were married and it was decided that Lew would call her Grandma
