Biography

I've added what information I've found as of December 2014 while researching her 3 brothers that married into the Tilton family. Because I'm uncertain as to the actual spelling of her given name, I'll just be using EM here. Hopefully a direct descendant will continue the research.

Birth to 1831

EM is with her family in Pennsylvania.

1831 Marriage

EM is married to William C. Sickler in PA. I haven't found the document yet so don't know exact date.

1831-1839

EM & William have 3 (maybe 4) children in PA between 1832 and 1837. I am assuming that EM and William moved their young family to Ogle County at the same time that EM's parents and all her siblings did in the late 1830's.

1840 Census

See the photo. William C. Sickler is listed in the house next door to the Dailey family (Wilson is head of household since his father passed away in 1839.) There are four children listed with William; (3 males/1 female). I have information on only two of the males and will guess that the child listed as "Under 5" did not survive to 1850. EM is not listed in this census-either with William or next door with her family. I am uncertain where she is.

1841-1849

EM's daughter, Minerva, passes away in 1843. A male child may have passed away about this time also. EM and William may have already been separated by the 1840 Census. They are divorced by 1843. William moves to Missouri & marries Matilda Robinet. Em stays in Illinois and marries Joseph Backus. EM & William's two surviving children are with her.
