James was enumerated as a Planter during the 1850 census, living with his family in Lafayette. His two oldest children worked as laborers.[2]
They were in Lafayette Parish during the 1860 census.[5]
James died after 1860 in Kaplan, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana.[citation needed]
Research Notes
Note that many more children were listed in the household on the 1860 census, and ages appear to be reasonable for this family, but most of the children should have also been listed with them on the 1850 census. Unknown why they were not; could they be other relatives and not their children, or were they just missed? More research is needed to verify the children from the 1860 census.
