Peter was born in Guilford, Connecticut, the son of John Dains and Susan Stephens. He married Nancy Jayne about 1807 and together they had three sons; Chadwick, Peter and Nelson C. Danes.
At an early age he crossed Long Island Sound in an open boat, landing on the north shore of Long Island (Setauket area) and adopted it as his future residence. Later he moved to Patchogue and married a woman named Nancy Jayne. They had three children, Chadwick, Nelson C. and Peter. (information from the monument that rests in the Gerard section of the Waverly Avenue Cemeteries in Patchogue.) This monument is in memory of the Danes family by John R (Jack) Danes, Peter's Great, Great, Great Grandson. June 2002.
