Patty Dale was born about 1802/4 in the Isle of Guernsey, in England. She married James Bates Eastway in 1828. The couple had four children in England by 1832.
James and Patty emigrated to New York with their children and James' father, Elias, and brother, Martin, and sister, Elizabeth. The family group of nine sailed on the "Columbus" with 16 trunks and arrived on Sept 5, 1832.[1] They settled in Eden, Erie, New York, where an additional four children were born. James worked as an engineer.

One of the first justices of Olive Township (1857). James arrived there in 1856 with children and sons-in-law. He was known as a well-educated man and admired by the other settlers of the region. He became the first councilman of Ottawa County. The 1860 census shows him working as a farmer.
Patty died in 1871. James died in 1886 in Robinson, Michigan, at the age of 93, and was buried in West Olive, Michigan.[3]

Patty's parents are unknown. Her gravestone names her as J. B. Eastway's wife, Patty Dale. Her children's marriage and death records use various surnames including: Dale[4] Brewer,[5] Barnes[6] Bruard[7]or Brand[8]
