Biography

Flag of Yorkshire (adopted 2008)
Richard Dale was born in Kirkby Overblow, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.

Richard Dale, identified as the "son of Richard and Margaret Dale" in the Kirkby Overblow parish register, was baptized on 05 Jun 1738, at All Saints' Church, Kirkby Overblow, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.[1] He was the second child and eldest son of Richard Dale and Margaret (Mawson) Dale, and It's likely he was born in early June, or possibly late May, 1738.

On September 6th, 13th and 20th, 1772, marriage banns were published at All Saints' Church, Kirkby Overblow, West Riding. Yorkshire, England for Richard Dale of the parish of Kirkby Overblow and Elizabeth Thompson of the same parish. Two months later, on 29 Nov 1772, at All Saints' Church, Kirkby Overblow, West Riding. Yorkshire, England, Richard wed Elizabeth Thompson.[2] He was 34 years old at the time of his marriage.

Over 32 years later, at 67 years old, Richard died. Richard, identified as "of Netherby" in the Kirkby Overblow parish register, was buried on 09 Jun 1805, at All Saints' Church, Kirkby Overblow, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.[3] It's probable he died in early June, but possibly in late May, 1805.

After 14 years of marriage, Richard Dale and Elizabeth (Thompson) Dale had one known child, as follows (but see research notes);

  1. James Dale (abt.1786-abt.1836)

Research Notes

  • Although, only one child for Richard and Elizabeth Dale, born in Kirkby Overblow can be identified, the birth occurred 14 years after the date of their marriage. Unless there were multiple miscarriages, it seems likely Richard and Elizabeth Dale had children elsewhere during this fourteen year period. There is a Richard and Elizabeth Dale, of Stainton in Cleveland, North Riding Yorkshire, who had three children in this same period, as follows;
    1. Elizabeth Dale (abt. 1774-)[4]
    2. Ann Dale (abt. 1778-)[5]
    3. Catherine Dale (abt. 1782-)[6]
  • It is possible these are the same Richard and Elizabeth Dale, but this possibility has not yet been confirmed.
