Herbert was born in Hull, Yorkshire in early-1894.[1]
He was the son of John Dale, a shipwright, and Esther Taylor. Herbert was his parents' seventh child: he had two older brothers ( Francis and Albert) and two older sisters (Lily and Edith) as well as two sisters (Alice and Emma) who had not survived infancy.
Sadly he died in 1896 at two years old.[2]
