My grandmother looks very sweet to me. She was a teacher, and I am a teacher. Her husband, my grandfather, died from a factory accident ca. 1918. She became betrothed to another man eventually, but the marriage fell through, possibly due to influences from the man's family. I got the impression from my mother that Ethel was quite disappointed. It was a broken promise.
