Mr. Patrick James Daley (69), one of the best-known residents of the Alstonville district and who had lived at 39 Union-street, South Lismore, for some months, died suddenly at his home early yesterday morning after an illness extending over several years. Mr. Daley had not enjoyed good health for many years, but his death was unexpected. The deceased was born at Broughton, on the South Coast, where he lived his early life. When a young man he moved to Coolgardie (W.A.) and worked for some time on the goldfields. He came to the Richmond River over 40 years ago and settled at Dalwood, in the Alstonville district on the Dalwood Estate. He remained there dairying until moving to live in retirement in Lismore a few months ago. Mr. Daley is survived by a widow, who was formerly Miss Hannah Kiely, whom he married at Grafton. Six sons and four daughters also survive. The sons are Vincent, Patrick and James Daley (Lismore), Victor (A.I.F., Greta), John (R.A.N., Sydney) and Edward (Sydney) the daughters are Nurse Mary Daley (Wagga), Nurse Peggy Daley (Sydney), Miss Kathleen Daley (Lismore), and Miss Agnes Daley (Brisbane). There are five grandchildren. Brothers of the deceased are John Daley (Lindendale) and Richard Daley (Lismore): sisters are Mother Margaret Mary (Coraki Convent), Mother Carthage (Grafton Convent). Mrs. George Kelly (Rous), Mrs. J D. Condon (Lismore), Matron Daley (Murwillumbah), and the Misses Hannah and Kate Daley (Lindendale). During his residence at Dalwood Mr. Daley was interested in various public movements and was actively associated with Agricultural Society work and was a successful exhibitor of A.I.S. cattle. His funeral will leave Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Church, South Lismore, to-day at 2 p.m. for the Lismore cemetery.
