Evelyn was born about 1838. He was the son of Thomas Dalrymple and Euphemia Weller. He passed away in 1918.

Evelyn served as a private in Company B, 19th Regiment., N.Y. Volunteer Cavalry in the Civil War, which was later re-designated to the 1st Regiment New York Dragoons. He was 22 when he enlisted in 1863. He was mustered out on July 7th, 1865 at Baltimore, MD.
