Biography

James was on a 1771 board of viewers that laid out a road from the town of Bedford. He was a private in Capt. Wm. McCall's Bedford Co. Militia, Co. 2 in the American Revolution. He owned land in Bedford Twp. The 1921 obit. of his gr.gr. grandson, John Albert Cuppett, reads: "Mr. Cuppett took a special interest in tracing his ancestors...Miss [Sarah] Dalton's father was James Dalton, who married Miss Townsend, both of them having emigrated from England to Bedford County."
