Marion, NC, Thursday, April 16, 1931 JAS. A. DALTON PASSES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

James A. Dalton, aged 92, died at his home Thursday night, April 9th, following an illness of only a few days. He was a Union soldier in the War between the States, and was Old Fort's oldest citizen.

Mr. Dalton was a life-long resident of McDowell county and spent the greater part of his life in this community. He possessed a cheerful and likeable personality which won for him the admiration of many friends.

The community extends sympathy to the members of his family surviving him, who are his son, W. L. Dalton and two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Graham and Mrs. Walter Saunders, and several grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at the home of his son, W. L. Dalton, at 4:30 Sunday afternoon. The Rev. M. E. Hansel, pastor of the Old Fort Presbyterian Church, Rev. El J. Ingle, pastor of the Baptist Church, and Rev. J. L. Rayle, pastor of the M. E. Church. The casket, which was draped with the national flag, was laden with beautiful floral offerings.

Interment was made in the Old Fort cemetery.
