Thomas was baptised at Whitehaven, Cumberland on 28 November 1838, with his parents named as Thomas and Mary. His birth was registered at Whitehaven in the fourth quarter of 1838, with his mother’s maiden name given as Buckham.

He studied at Caius College, Cambridge.
He was ordained deacon in 1862, priest in 1863. He taught at Eton College, where he became head of mathematics and a house master. He served as chairman of the Eton Local Board of Health and as a member of Buckinghamshire County Council.
Thomas married Charlotte Ann Edmonstone at St James, Paddington, London on 16 December 1871.
1891 census: Eton, Buckinghamshire, age 52, clerk in holy orders. Wife Charlotte A, 44, born Wiltshire, Children, all born in Buckinghamshre: Thomas E, 18; Mary S, 17; Charles R, 15; Arthur C, 13; Hilda M, 11; Kathleen B C, 9; Harold F, 5. 9 servants.
Thomas’s death was registered at Eton, Buckinghamshire in the fourth quarter of 1894.
