Charles Dalton was born in 1858 in West Bretton, Yorkshire, the son of Joah Dalton and Jane Longley.
[1]. He was baptised on 31 October 1858 at West Bretton Chapel, Yorkshire[2].
Charles Dalton married Cydlia Pickles on 23 September 1882 at St. John the Baptist Church, Wakefield, Yorkshire[3]. The record of his marriage shows him and Cydlia living at Westfield Grove, Wakefield, Yorkshire. The 1881 Census, detailed below, confirms that they were living with Cydlia's uncle Joseph and his family at that address. It is interesting to note the number of people employed by Cydlia's uncle Joseph and auntie Ellen in their respective tailoring and millinery businesses as shown in the 1881 census detailed below.
Following Charles and Cydlia's marriage they moved to nearby Westfield View, as shown in the 1901 Census, detailed below, before moving back to Westfield Grove as shown in the 1911 census.
Charles and Cydlia had two children; Harold, born 1889[4] and who served in the Royal Engineers during WWI [5] and who died in London in 1946[6] and Lillie, born in 1884[7] and who sadly died in 1893 aged 9[8].
Charles Dalton died in Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1926[9] and was buried at St. Helen's Church, Sandal Magna, Wakefield, Yorkshire on 18 August 1926[10].
