In 1880, 3-year-old Mary was living in Eagle Mills with her parents, Anderson and Vina Dalton, and siblings Andy and Josaphine. Also living with them was grandmother Mary Houston.[1]
On November 12, 1893, Mary Bell Dalton married Luther Patterson in Iredell County. Witnesses were William Dalton and Andy Dalton.[2]
In 1910, Luther and Mary Bell had a rented farm on Harmony Road in Eagle Mills. They had been married 16 years and Mary Bell had carried nine children, five of whom were still living and were at home with Luther and Mary Bell.[3] They remained on the farm on Harmony Road near Turnersburg. They had seven children living at home.[4]
Mary Bell and Luke Patterson remained on the farm through at least 1940. Children and grandchildren would be shown as living with them on the Census records.[5][6] Sometime prior to 1946 they would move to Houstonville in Eagle Mills Township. This is where Mary Bell and Luke were living when she died.
Mary Bell Patterson, a resident of Houstonville, was born March 17, 1877, to Anderson and Vina Dalton. She died at the age of 69 in Eagle Mills on June 27, 1946. She was survived by her husband Luke Patterson who was the informant. She was buried June 29 in Nebo Cemetery.[7]
