Denise (Damane) Damanée a des origines françaises.

Fille de Michel Damané et de Catherine Toureau de la paroisse de St-Jean-en-Grève, à Paris (4ème arrondissement), en Île-de-France, elle nait vers 1641 ou 1642[1] (25 ans en 1666, 26 en 1667, 40 en 1681 aux recensements, on lui donne 65 ans en 1704 à sa sépulture).

Elle arrive à Québec le 18 juin 1665 à bord du vaisseau St-Jean-Baptiste de Dieppe[2] comme Fille du Roy, ne sachant pas signer.[1]

Mariage
Selon Jetté, René Houray et Denise Damané font un contrat de mariage le 26 octobre 1665 devant le notaire Jacques de La Tousche à Champlain[3]. Les actes de ce notaire ont été consultés, ce contrat ne s'y trouve pas ou plus. René Houray est effectivement présent ce jour dans le bureau du notaire, il signe comme témoin du contrat de mariage pour Gabriel Benoist avec Anne Guesdon, il y est aussi comme témoin le 27 au contrat de Charles Bonnin avec Marie Meusnier; il signe ces deux contrats René Houray[4] Le contrat n'est pas non plus dans l'inventaire publié pour ce notaire.[5]

Denise Damanée sera marraine de son petit-fils Pierre Couillard, fils de sa fille Denise, le 26 janvier 1691 à Champlain.[10]

Décès
Denise Damanée est inhumée le 22 septembre 1704 à Champlain, l'acte lui donnant 65 ans. Cités présents sont Pierre Caillas et Rémond Courrier dit Bourdelois sergent dans les troupes et autres parents et amis. C'est le curé P. Boy de Batiscan qui a officié en l'absence du curé Louis Geoffroy de Champlain.[11]

Daughter of Michel Damané and of Catherine Toureau of the parish of St-Jean-en-Grève, in Paris (4th arrondissement), in Île-de-France, she was born around 1641 or 1642[1] (25 in 1666, 26 in 1667, 40 in 1681 on censuses, she is given the age of 65 in 1704 at her funeral).[12][13][14][15][16]

She arrived in Québec city on 18 June 1665 aboard the ship St-Jean-Baptiste from Dieppe[2] as a Fille du Roy, unable to sign.[1][17]

Marriage
According to Jetté, René Houray and Denise Damané entered into a marriage contract on 26 October 1665 before notary Jacques de La Tousche in Champlain[3]. The acts of this notary have been consulted, this contract is not or no longer there. René Houray is effectively present that day in the notary's office, he signs as witness on the marriage contract of Gabriel Benoist with Anne Guesdon, he is also there as witness on the 27th to the contract of Charles Bonnin with Marie Meusnier; he signs both contracts René Houray[4] The contract is also not in the published inventory for this notary.[5]

They were established in Champlain, 10 known children (original spelling), listed above. 8 of them will marry, one died and age 18 and one at age 62, single.[7][3]

It is noteworthy that 3 of their children will marry children of Guillien Dubord and of Catherine Guérard.

1681 Census: CHAMPLAIN

Denise Damanée will be godmother of her grandson Pierre Couillard, son of her daughter Denise, on 26 January 1691 in Champlain.[10]

Death
Denise Damanée is buried on 22 September 1704 in Champlain, the record giving her 65 years of age. Cited present were Pierre Caillas and Rémond Courrier dit Bourdelois sergeant of the troops and other family and friends. The curé P. Boy of Batiscan officiated in the absence of the curé Louis Geoffroy of Champlain.[11]
