John was born in 1882 in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. In 1905, a John Dancy is enumerated on the New Jersey State Census in what appears to be a boarding house, hotel or other similar lodging. He is 22, a brakeman and indidates he was born in Pennsylvania and his parents both in Maine. He does not appear to be married. [1] In 1915 he is enumerated on the federal census in the home of Mrs. Mary Payne together with her four children and her mother. HIs occupation is "trainman." [2] In 1918 John registerd for the draft in Elizabeth, New Jersey. [3] By 1920, Mrs. Mary Payne appears to be known as Eleanora M. Dancy, wife of John Dancy. Her Payne children are listed with the Dancy surname, and there are additional Dancy children presumed to be the children of John and his new wife. [4] In 1920, John Dancy is identified as a brakeman. He seems to have died in 1923. A John Dancy was buried in Mt. Olivet cemetery where his wife's father was buried, 10 May 1923. [5]
