Arabella (Dancy) Battle is a part of US Black heritage.
Arabella was born a slave about 1840 in North Carolina. From April 1858 she and Joyner Battle, also a slave, were living as wife and husband on W.S. Battle's plantation. This was recorded in 1866; at that time, Joyner and Arabella had 3 children living.[1]
In 1870 Joyner and Arabella were living in Township 12 Rocky Mount, Edgecombe County, North Carolina with their children Jollie, Allen, Isabella, and Arabella.[2] 3 more sons, Jordan, Alfred and Derry were born between 1870 and 1880.[3]
In 1900 Joyner and Arabella were living with their youngest son Darry and several grandchildren: Mary E. Vaughan, Isabella and Olivia Deans, Esther and Jane Gray.[4]
