Timeline

1699 Feb 21 Mary Harnden (under "Harndell") daughter of Jno. and Susana was born in Reading, Middlesex County.[1]

1707 She was age 8 when Native Americans attacked her home and killed her mother, Susannah.

1720 Jul 14 She first married Joseph Dane, son of Francis, on 14 Jul 1720.[2]

1721 Dec 27 Joseph died of Smallpox on 27 Dec 1721. [3]. There were no children.

1724, Jul 14 She remarried as Mary Dane, to Joshua Frye, in Andover, Essex County,[4]

1724-1729 Children of Joshua and Mary Frie: Probably Mary, Joshua and Jonathan were born in Andover. [5]

1729 Dec 24 Mary Frie, wife of Joshua died in her 31st year in Andover, Mass. [6][7]

1743 The will of John Harnden, written 23 Dec 1743 , mentions "my granddaughter Mary Frye, daughter of my daughter Mary, deceased". This answers all the questions, clears up the confusion. [8]

Potential Confusion

I've posted a Freespace page "Mary Dane of Andover" regarding four different Mary Danes in this era with ongoing research I'm doing to sort out the dates, places and relationships of the four women, including the subject of this profile. Dane-173 01:04, 17 April 2016 (EDT)

In the Freespace page above, I discuss why I believe that the wife of Joshua Frie is Mary Harnden Dane, the widow of Joseph Dane (the son of Francis and Hannah).

Two unsourced genealogies exist and they disagree on which Mary Dane married Joshua Frie. Charlotte Abbott in her Frye family history [9] indicates that Mary Harnden Dane married Joshua Frye in 1724. The Frye Genealogy, by Elizabeth Barker Frye, however, says Joshua Frye married "Mary, the daughter of Francis and Hannah Dane of Andover".[10] Dane-173 23:49, 15 April 2016 (EDT)

The will of Francis Dane, however, mentions his daughter Mary Ballard and son-in-law Jeremiah Ballard[11]. Until further evidence emerges, this will suggests that Abbott's summary is correct and Joshua Frie married Mary Harnden Dane.
