This person was one of the early settlers of Île Bourbon.
Hervé was one of the original group of settlers of Île Bourbon (now Réunion). His origins have been well documented by Alain Lelong and published here. The information in this biography is taken from Alain's work and from an article at Le Journal de l'île de la Réunion.
In 1665 the Compagnie des Indes sent four ships, with 288 passengers, to establish colonies in the Indian Ocean; one of the passengers on Le Taureau was Hervé. It seems that the glass-making business in Brix, which his family had been involved with for some generations, had taken a downturn and Hervé sought new opportunities.
There are differing accounts on whether he married Léonarde in her home town of Granville or if she was part of the second fleet in 1667 and the marriage took place on Île Bourbon. The latter version has an older history and seems the more likely.
They had three children, Gilles in 1669, Geneviève in 1673, and Suzanne in 1674, before Hervé died in 1678.
