Biography

Some compilers include Phoebe, who married Thomas Jackson, as a daughter of William Daniel-5982 but she is obviously too young to be the daughter of William and FNU Williams as she had three minor children (Thomas, Mary and John) when Thomas Jackson's estate was probated in 1749 [1] in Caroline County, Virginia. One son, John, was still a minor in January 1765 when [2]William Daniel-3444 (Jr.) was appointed his guardian. Phoebe Jackson was appointed administrator of the estate of Thomas Jackson in 1749 and Joshua Lindsay was appointed administrator in 1756 [3], leading to speculation that Phoebe married Joshua Lindsay. Joshua was the nephew of James Lindsay who married Sarah Daniel, who would have been Phoebe's uncle and aunt.

The Thomas Jackson Phoebe is often linked to sold his land in Essex County in 1726 and moved to Spotsylvania County. No wife released her dower to land sold by this Thomas Jackson and later (1734) Margaret Jackson released her dower rights to land sold by Thomas Jackson in Spotsylvania. Thomas Jackson left a will[4] in Orange County, VA.

Phoebe, if a Daniel girl, was more likely the daughter of William Daniel Jr. She was probably born about 1728, based on the ages of her children, but could have been born a bit earlier, so it is a toss up as to whether she was born in Essex or Caroline County, VA. She married Thomas Jackson about 1745. She is not mentioned in Carollne Court Order Books after 1749.

It is also possible that Phoebe was a daughter of William Daniel-5982 and his second wife, Rozannah.

There has been speculation that he had a son named Thomas who married Phoebe Daniel, but this remains to be explored. Thomas Jackson continued to associate with Caroline County families after moving to Spotsylvania and Orange, including Elijah Daniel and Edward Walker who married Mary Daniel. Margaret could have been a Lindsay as Joshua was a name used in that family.
