The son of Charles Daniel and Pearl (DeFoe) Daniel, William Denial was born in Wayne County, Tennessee[citation needed] in 1924, residing there with his family..[1][2] He married Ruth (Lancaster) Daniel, the daughter of William Benjamin Lancaster and Florence Estella Kelley, marrying in Lawrence County, Tennessee on May 17, 1941.[3] They were quite young at the time they married: William had just turned 17 and Ruth had just turned 15.
Private Earl Daniel served in the United States Army in World War II Service started: March 24, 1843 Unit(s): 115th Infantry Regiment;79th Division Service ended:
William Daniel was drafted during World War II, enlisting on March 24, 1943, just before his 19th birthday. He trained at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.[4] His enlistment papers noted that his marital status was "single with dependents." He served as a Private with the 79th Division's 115th Infantry Regiment.[5]
William Daniel died just over a year later, during the Invasion of Normandy, at St.-Saint-Lô,[6] at the age of 20. He is buried at Loretto Cemetery in Loretto, Tennessee.[7]
