Harold was born in 1879. He was the son of James Daniel and Angelina Hadler. He was a keen Australian Rules Footballer, playing for Port Melbourne in the VFA and for Carlton in the VFL for one season in 1901. At 36 years of age, he volunteered for active service in WW1. He suffered a gunshot wound on the left side on 4 Oct 1917 and was killed in action on 10 Aug 1918 in Amiens, France.
