Actually more handsome than his brother he had the same warm and lovable personality, enhanced by greater stability and responsibility. He was first married, 31 May 1905, by Father Henry Hussmann, a Catholic priest, to Emma Ketterer. She died in childbirth 10 Sept. 1914, the baby dying also. They were buried together in the Ketterer lot in the Catholic Cemetery, Charleston, Mo. He married secondly, 20 Sept. 1920, in St. Louis, Mo., Emma Catherine Daniels. Of this marriage two sons were born: Hardy Barry Joseph Pottinger, 22 June 1921, and James Daniel Pottinger, 17 Nov. 1922. Uncle Hardy, as a young man, was noted as a baseball player, fisherman and hunter, and he was a champion trap shooter. He could even say held shot, in a tournament in Texas, with the then National Champion trap shooter, Charley Spencer, and the famous Annie Oakley - and equaled their scores. He owned and operated a billiard parlor in Charleston until he was elected Police Chief, in which office he served four terms, until illness put a stop to his activity.
