Terry Daniels Musician

In the winter of 1969, Terry Daniels was born in in a modest country shack in Demerara the smallest County in the newly formed Republic of Guyana, South America.

At that time, Guyanese bands of the late 1960s and 1970s were Cannonballs, Curtis MG’s, Dominators, Little Jones, Mischievous Guys, Rhythmaires, Rudy and the Roosters, Sid and the Slickers, Telstars, and the Yoruba Singers. He was largely influenced by Reggae the music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. Reggae is based on a rhythmic style characterized by regular beats on the off-beat, known as the skank. Also Influencing young Terry was American Country music & Calypso, especially popular in Guyana and often played during celebrations like Mashramani. Trinidad’s Chutney Music played and performed at private events, usually with lyrics in English and/or Hindi also had it’s role. Terry took much interest in the local folklore, especially Shanto, a form of Guyanese music, related to both calypso and mento. A light-hearted music, often accompanied by the guitar. In 1989, Terry moved to “Guyane”, a French overseas region of the 26 regions of France. In this more stable economy, he was able to purchase his first acoustic Guitar and taught himself to play and express himself musically. Later on, a Friend, Antony Dwarka, hand made an electric Guitar from French Guyanese hardwood as a gift to him. After being introduced to Blues by Wayne Berry, a construction worker from Massachusetts USA, Terry wrote his first song “Like a Rose” while still learning to play. This song has a strong rock riff based on the blues progression. Finding that the Blues gave him more feeling of self expression, he determined to perfect this genre. After 5 years of Self Tuition, Terry began teaching music for Beginners in 1995. In 2006 he moved to Ealing, London. On June 28 2008 he started his youtube channel on which he adopted the pseudonym “Chris Barker”. In London, he also resumed his one-to-one tuition for beginners in Guitar playing and Vocals. He has developed his own teaching method and has written a few songs of his own, including “Recession Blues” well known for it’s reference to Britain’s 2009 economic decline. Terry has developed his skills especially on the Acoustic Guitar. The genres he excels in are: Blues, Reggae, Country and Rock. He also plays Calypso, Ska, Mento, Pop, Motown and some classical pieces.
