Research Notes

Notes from external profile

Michael E Dobson notes 28 Nov 2005: The assignment of Nathan as Phila's father is based upon circumstantial evidence. Her husband, Thomas was from Brandon, Rutland County, Vermont and she married Thomas in Paris, Oneida County New York in 1797 for which we have a solid reference. In the 1790 Rutland County, Vermont Census we find the family of Nathan Daniels with 3 sons and 3 daughters and his wife living in the town of Brandon. He is the only Daniels family in Brandon. Unfortunately ages were not recorded in the 1790 census. In the 1800 Census for Oneida County, New York in the town of Paris, we find a Nathan Daniels. Ages of children are 2 sons 10-16, 1 son 16-26 and 1 male over 45. Also listed are 2 daughters 10 or under, one daughter 10-16 and one female over 45. There is an Andrew Daniels in an adjoining town but he is too young to be Phila's father, possibly a brother who moved to New York with Nathan. There are no Daniels in Brandon, Vermont listed in the 1800 Census. So it is probable that the Winslows and Daniels were among the families that moved from Vermont to Oneida and Erie Counties New York between 1790 and 1800 and perhaps Thomas and Phila knew each other from Brandon.
