ALERT. ERROR HERE -NEED FIXING. This profile, as I found it, shows a text putting John Daniels in the home of Benjamin and Elizabeth Daniels. BUT - apparently a bad merge took place, and puts him in the home of Reuben and Nancy Daniels. CAN ANYONE FINE HIS CORRECT BIRTH PARENTS? April Dauenhauer Reuban and Nancy are the correct parents of this John Daniels. Reuben is found in the 1800 census in PA and by 1829 John was married in Ohio. Laura Daniels Nixon

Biography

John was born about the year 1800 in Pennsylvania, the oldest child of Benjamin and Elizabeth Daniels. The family moved to Pike County, Ohio, before John reached the age of five. He appears to still be living on his parents' farm in 1820.

A little less than eight years later, another marriage license was issued for John Daniels and Winifred "Winney" Huff. This marriage was later recorded by Methodist Episcopal minister Eskridge Hall, who stated that he married the couple on March 28, 1829.

The 1830 Census of found John and Winney living in their own household in Pike County. There were no children in the home. Interestingly, their next door neighbor was James Plowman, who was Polly's brother and evidently John's former brother-in-law.

By 1840, John had moved back to the area around his father's farm. His brothers also had households in the vicinity. His mother appears to have passed away by this time.

In 1850, John and Winney were still living around the Daniels homestead, but John did not appear to be actively engaged in farming. His occupation at the time was that of a pump maker. Five of their children were living with them, ages 3 to 18, along with one of Winney's relatives named Anna, possibly her sister.

By 1860, John was working as a carpenter. Most of the children were grown, but only daughter Sarah had married and moved out of the house. Only 13-year-old son Andrew was not employed. The oldest daughter Rebecca, then 28 years old, was a school teacher. Daughter Elizabeth, 26, was a weaver. Son David was 18 and a farm labor. Even Anna Huff was listed as a servant.

John passed away sometime between 1860 and 1870. He was not on the 1870 Census with Winney and the remaining members of the family.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
