Biography

Hélène Danis was born about 1711 in Kaskaskia, Illinois, daughter of Charles (Danis) Danis dit Tourangeau (1684 - 1724) and Dorothée (Mechipoueoua) Turpin (~1694 - ~1751).

Married 14 January 1724, Kaskaskia, Illinois, to Mathurin Chaput 1693-

Hélène (~17) married Ignace Hebert (34) , son of Ignace Hebert and Jeanne Messier, on 27 Nov 1728 in Fort de Chartres, he entered into a marriage contract with Helene Danis, widow of Alathurin.

Their children were:

  1. Ignace, born in 1730, died by 1786. (Billon, Annals. 431)
  2. Helene Hébert (~1732 - ). She became the third wife of Louis Turpin.[1]
  3. Joseph Hebert (~1736 - <1801).
  4. Marie who married Jean Baptiste Martigny in 1745.[2]

In 1743 she was godmother to Marie Joseph Desjardins who was born 28 Dec 1743 and baptized the same day in Fort de Chartres. She was the daughter of André Thomas Desjardins and Marie Joseph Sorelle. Godparents were Monsieur Antoine Sorel (signature) and Helene Danys wife of Ignace Hebert captain of militia. [3]

On May 17, 1746 she was godmother to one of Marie's children, her namesake Helene.[4]

Helene Danis, widow of Ignace Hebert, captain of the militia at Fort de Chartres. Ignace Hebert was the son of Ignace Hebert and Jeanne Messier St. Michel, baptized at Varennes June 8, 1694. (Tanguay, IV, 476).

Hélène died on 28 Nov 1784 in St. Louis, Louisiana, New France aged ~73. [citation needed]
