Jane Darell was the daughter of Edward Darell and his first wife, Jane Croft and married Sir Anthony Hungerford as his first wife. Their marriage likely took place circa 1504, at which time a bond for £500 was drawn up between their respective fathers, Sir John Hungerford and Sir Edward Darell. [1]
Jane, probably named for her mother, Jane Croft, was a half first cousin to Sir John Seymour (father of Queen Jane Seymour) and a second cousin to Elizabeth Blount, mother of Henry VIII's illegitimate son, Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond. Her sister Elizabeth Darell was one of Katherine of Aragon's waiting women and was left £200 in the latter's Will. Their father, Sir Edward, had been the former queen's chamberlain.
Jane was likely dead before 1530, as she is not mentioned in her father's WIll. Her husband, Sir Anthony, married his second wife, Dorothy Danvers, some time after 1524 when her first husband, Sir John Fettiplace, died.
She was likely buried in the church of Downe Ampney where Aubrey noted "Here is this scutcheon. (B.) Hungerford with a mullet for difference, impaling Dayrell, Az. a lion ramp. A. Qu: If Or? I believe Or. crowned Or." [2]
