William was born in 1912. He was the son of William Dargan and Rosa McIntosh. He passed away in 2006.

"William Edwin Dargan IV, born Oct. 7th, 1912 in Darlington. He attended Clemson College and graduated B.S. in agronomy in 1934. From 1934 to 1940 he worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service where he made outstanding contributions in the field of agriculture and conservation. He then began farming near Darlington until he was called to active duty with the U.S. Army. From Feb. 1942 to Jan. 1946 he served as Commanding Officer, Service Company, of an armored infantry battalion. Since his discharge from the Army, he has been a very successful farmer and active in the Farm Bureau and other farm-related organizations. He has for 20 years been chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Soil and Water Conservation District and for several years chairman of the national research committee. He is a past president of the Darlington County Agricultural Society, and for several years has been president of the Darlington Farmer's Mutual Insurance Co. Besides his farming activities he has from time to time, during the past 25 years, served as vestryman or warden of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. On June 10th, 1939 he married Annie McCullough Edwards."
