== Biography = My birth name is Lanna Kay Dark . I read somewhere that my first name means light . If so light / dark can equal confused lol . I am 53 yrs old with a mind of a 15 yr old . I am rarely serious. I love to joke and laugh. It is my coping mechanism. I love people and I am always trying to find the best in everyone. This world needs more love in it. Please never think I am being sarcastic on here . I was raised well to respect everyone. I was born and raised in Louisiana. My parents and grandparents were farmers . My dad was also a school teacher, basketball and football coach , he also loves the political platform. He along with my grandfather and numerous great grandparents were either Police Jury members and presidents of their parish or running for other offices. The one thing about it my dad was honest and by the book when it came to that . He would take me with him when he would meet with the Governor of our state so I could see first hand . Great experiences . He is the hardest working man I know. My mom has worked along side him driving tractors , hunting for food , worked various jobs some in clerical and secretary for the Judges office . She then went on to retire from a health club as a trainer and sales . She is also ordained to minister. She loved doing woman’s ministry at the local prisons but she had to give it up due to health . She prays for us daily never misses a beat ! She is the one though that would fight hell for her kids! When I was a kid we were taught to work . If dad caught me sitting to long in front of the tv and not doing housework chores he would make me run 25 laps around the house 🤣 We also had to work the huge acre long gardens also we would hoe and stomp cotton and set up irrigation for the cotton fields growing up . I am proud to have experienced hard work! It taught me so much . I call it my survival traits. We lived right on a lake . I swam daily. I would also bathe in it when the water froze to the house lol . We thought we were really getting clean in that cold lake 😁 . The Ouachita River was right on the other side of the lake . I fished at times with a stick and string. I even used my bare hands to scoop up gar . My dad also was a commercial fisherman and we ran trot lines and hoop nets. Living near the water also means alligators and poisonous snakes. My dad has been bitten by cotton mouth several times when he was a child and a Copperhead a couple years ago. He has beat all kinds of odds . He is 77 and still going . My grandparents (Dark) lived across the road from us . I now live in their home. Their land is right next to the Game Reserve. So we encounter many wildlife here. This land comes alive at night . The sounds that you hear can make your hair stand up if you are not use to it . There are several ancient burial mounds about a half a mile from my home. Some were destroyed many years ago when they put the levees in along the river. I grew up with a great respect of those who lived on this land way before we did . I have many stories to tell some might be unbelievable but they were either witnessed by others or documented in some way . Maybe I will share soon. I am married to George Duncan and I have two beautiful and gifted children. Dakota my daughter blessed me with 2 granddaughters and one grandson. I would lay my life down for them! . Dustin my son has never married (almost once though) no children yet … that I know of lol. But he works hard . He is a Sub Sea engineer off the Gulf . Both my children graduated from college. My daughter has a Toxicology degree and my son has a degree in Science. I am a Jack of all traits but a master of none. I worked in the school system, Census work, sold life insurance, secretary work, health care and numerous other fields . I was also the babysitter for my community. Governor John McKeithen (Louisiana Governor) was a neighbor and would call me to help with the kids if he had a social gathering at his home. I was a teenager but mom had worked at the judge’s office and knew all the bad things going on so I was never out having a party with my friends but was babysitting instead lol . I am proud of who and where I came from . My dream is to one day travel and see where my direct ancestors came from. To understand what they went through for me to be here now . I might stumble at times but I always get back up and fight another day . I am here to right the wrongs from our past and to continue the path . Love you all and I am excited to find my kin .

I have been building my family tree over some years and, like you, I had previously creted some initial efforts on other websites: then I found WikiTree!
If you are still interested, may I offer a suggestion? I think that if you were to download a GEDCOM file of one of your other family trees and save it, you could then upload that file to WikiTree. Using the 'tools' you could then check for any matches and start branching out.
Happy hunting!

If you would like to point out your relationships to famous people take a look at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Relationship_Stickers You can add all the stickers you would like to your own profile. We will remove the relationship comments on famous people, as you can imagine, it would fill the page if everyone did it.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Happy tree climbing
