Charles was born in 1849 in Spalding, Lincolnshire [1]. His mothers maiden name is listed as Riggall on the GRO register.
In 1851 Charles aged 2 was living with his parents John an Agricultural Labourer and Ann also living there were his siblings John and David and a lodger Thomas Sherman from Rutland. The family were living at Risegate, Gosberton, Lincolnshire. [2]
In 1861 Charles aged 12 a scholar was living with his parents John a Ground Keeper and Ann also living there were his siblings David and James Frederick. The family lived at Town Dam Road, Quadring, Lincolnshire. [3]
In 1874 Charles married Harriet Bee in Spalding, Lincolnshire. [4]
In 1881 Charles aged 32 a Baker was living with his wife Harriet and their children Ethel Annie and Laura along with a servant Mary Frances Richard. The family lived at High Street, Markse, Guisbrough. [5]
In 1891 Charles aged 42 a Baker & Confectioner was living with his wife Harriet and their children Ethel A, Laura, Mabel S, Florence B and Charles. The family had one servant Mary Spiller a General Domestic Servant from Devon and two apprentices George E Kick from Yorkshire and John Scott from Northumberland. The family were living at Milton Street, Marske, Guisbrough.[6]
In 1901 Charles aged 52 a China Dealer was living with his wife Harriet and their children Ethel A, Laura, Mabel S, Florence B, Charles H and Ivy H. The family were living at 102 Derbyshire Lane, Norton, Yorkshire. [7]
In 1911 Charles aged 61 a Glass, China and General Dealer was living with his wife Harriet and their 6 children; Ethel Annie aged 34 a Confectioner, Laura aged 32 a Assistant in Business, Mabel Susanna aged 28 a Assistant in Business, Florence Bee aged 25, Charles Harold a Assistant in Business and Ivy H aged 19. The family also had a General Domestic Servant Indiana Codling from Staithes. The family lived at 39 Milton Street, Saltburn-by-the-sea, Yorkshire. [8]
Charles died in 1929 aged 80 he was buried in Saltburn Cemetery, Saltburn-by-the-sea. [9] [10]
