Biography

Eleanor Darnall was born about 1703, at the Woodyard, the family home in Prince George's County, Maryland, near present day Andrews Air Force Base. Her parents were Henry Darnall II and Anne Digges. Eleanor married, about 1727, Daniel Carroll, son of Keane Carroll. Daniel and Eleanor had seven children. Their son, Daniel Carroll II, 1730-1796, signed both the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution. Son John entered the priesthood and became the first American archbishop. Their daughter, Anne Carroll, is the mother of Col. William Brent. [1]

She married Daniel Carroll, the father of Daniel Carroll II, one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation, They had three children: fHenry Darnall; Eleanor Carroll; Anne Bradford and John Darnall[2]

The Carroll Chapel cemetery in Forest Glen, Maryland, is in the parish of St. John the Evangelist in the Rock Creek area of Washington D.C. and Maryland. This cemetery is on land that at one time belonged to Eleanor Darnall Carroll, 1703-1796. She had the chapel built on the land where she lived for one of her sons, John Carroll,
