Biography

Lillie Mae was born on June 4,1888 in DeKalb County, IL, as the third child of Elizabeth Jennie Poile and Thomas Darnell. [1] [2]

In 1900 Lillie was 12 years old and living on Rail Road Street in Sandwich, IL with her father, Thomas Darnell, mother Elizabeth Jennie Poile (39), her oldest sister Eva (Darnell) Peterson (17), older brother Blaine Darnell (15), all who were attending school, and her youngest brother, Harry Darnell (6) who had not yet begun school.[3]

Lillie Mae was known for her fancy baking and elegant presentations when she lived in Sandwich, IL, a talent not seen by or enjoyed by her three grandchildren, who were all born after her death.[4]

She married Walter A Taylor on 05 Oct 1918, in Kane County, Illinois[5] and moved to Dorr Township, McHenry County, Illinois for a short time where they lived with or on the same farm as her brother, Blaine Darnell and his wife, Hannah (Priebe) Darnell and their three children - Frances (Darnell) Kivitts, Sherman Darnell, and Gerald Darnell[6] before moving to Michigan City, Indiana about 1921[7] with whom Lillie Mae's daughter, E Maureene (Darnell) Wendell, would have lifelong connections. They then moved on to Galena, LaPorte County, Indiana at some time prior to 1930.[8] Daughter, E Maureene (Darnell) Wendell, remained in Sandwich, IL in the home of her great-grandmother Jennie Jennie (Poile) Darnell and uncle, Harry Darnell where she was able to complete her primary education and maintain strong bonds with her cousins.[9]

Having had no knowledge that Lillie Mae was ill, her mother, Jennie (Poile) Darnell, siblings and daughter were shocked by her sudden death from intestinal influenza, at the age of 42, on 12 Aug, 1930 in LaPorte, Indiana. [10] [11]

All contact with Walter ceased for unknown reasons.

She was buried in the Darnell Family Plot at Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Sandwich, DeKalb County, Illinois.[12]
