Nicolas Dassilva Portuguais died 3 May 1761. He was buried the next day in Pointe-de-Lévy (Lauzon).
Research Notes
Pierre was born 12 Jul 1698. He was the son of Pedro Dasilva (his signature in the register entry reads Pedro Dasilva, the record gives his name as Pierre Dassylvain) and Joanne Greslon. He was baptized the same day in Notre-Dame de Québec, godparents were Sieur Nicolas Volant "bourgeois marchand" and Louise Douaire wife of Sieur Pinau who both sign along with the father. [3][4].
PRDH links Nicolas Dassilva who married Marie Elizabeth Lainé to the baptism of Pierre on 12 Jul 1698. [5] No baptism for a Nicolas son of this couple has been found in parish records. His godfather is Nicolas Volant, often the child was given the name of one of the godparents. it seems likely there was an error in the record where the father's name was written in instead of the child's name. Note The name Pierre is not originally entered on the record, it got added over the line, and thereafter in the margin when the priest did his admin.
Another Pierre is baptized 9 Apr 1690 [6][7]. He is linked to the Pierre who marries Marie Mingou 2 May 1713 [8]. The date of 1713 would make the Pierre born in 1698 young for marriage.
This couple does have another set of sons with the same name who reach adulthood: Jean Marie Dasilva and Jean Marie Dasilva. [2] It is possible they named two sons Pierre but the younger Pierre became known by his godfather's name, Nicolas.
