Du Preez geskiedenis 1050-1688
"Die naam Du Preez beteken "man van die huis by die weiland". Die familie Du Preez van Suid-Afrika kom oorspronklik vanuit die streek tussen die riviere die Schelde en die Somme in Vlaandere. Hulle het hulle naam aanvanklik Des Prez en ook Des Pres geskryf.
Die van bestaan al vir meer as 900 jaar lank. Die vroegste draer van die van was Lambert de Pre, wat teen ongeveer 1050 gebore is en wat seneskalk van Luik was. Sy nageslag het die van oorgeërf. 'n Ander bekende du Preez, was die beroemde Renaissance komponis, Josquin des Prez, 1440-1521."[1][citation needed]
Die Du Preez voorouers het iets saamgebring wat na meer as 300 jaar nog in die Kaapse staatsargief bewaar gebly het: die attestaat wat die Franstalige Waalse kerk in Vlissingen[2] aan hulle gegee het as 'n soort getuigskrif. Ons, predikant en ouderlinge van die Waalse Kerk van Vlissingen, sertifiseer hiermee dat Hercule des Pres en sy vrou openlik die Gereformeerde Geloof bely het en met toenemnde vroomheid onder ons gewoon het, die heilige byeenkomste bygewoon en aan die Sakrament van die Heilige Avondmaal deelgeneem het. Gevolglik versoek ons ons hooggeëerde broederleiers van die ander kerke om hulle as lede van die kerk van Jesus Christus te erken, in die vertroue waarvan ons hierdie getuienis onder ons gebruiklike stempel onderteken het. Gedaan tydens 'n kerkraadsvergadering hierdie 11de dag van die maand Februarie 1688. (Get.) Lombard, Predikant. (Get.) Daniel degroote, Ouderling namens almal (op die kerkraad)."[1][citation needed]
"Hercules, die Du Preez stamvader, was getroud met Cecilia d'Atis[3][4] (1650-1720). Op 18 April 1690 ontvang Hercules des Prez 510 Gulden van die Hollands Oos-Indiese Kompanjie. Hy woon op die plaas De Zoete Inval. (De Soete Inval), nou Paarl stasie en oos daarvan. Die plaas is in 1692 aan hom toegesê en formeel toegeken 15/10/1697. Hercules sterf 1695.[5] Cecilia D'Atis trou na Hercules se dood met Pierre Dumont.

Hy word egter saam met Adam Tas en ander burgers vrygelaat kort voordat hulle na Mauritius sou vertrek. Teken sy naam as "des Pres". Getroud met: 1. Marie le Febre (Fevre) (1651-1701). 1 Seun en 1 dogter. 2. Cornelia Villion (Viljoen).
  3. Marie-Jeanne (gebore 1675 of 1678): Getroud met Jaques Therand (Jacques Theron van Nismes)(1668-1739). Noem haarself as "van Bethun"‚ in haar testament. 5 Seuns en 3 dogters.

Hy besit ook Artois en De Hoop in Land van Waveren onder die Witsenberge, naby Wolseley, in die Tulbagh distrik (albei toegeken 1714). Hy is in 1696 getroud met Elizabeth Prevost (gebore 1683, dogter van Charles Prevost: sy het saam met 'n broer en 'n suster van Marcq (Marck) naby Calais gekom)."[1][citation needed]
Hercule du PRE/des PRES (vandag bekend as du PREEZ), gebore 1645, van Cortryk (Courtrai) was 'n Franse Hugenoot wat in 1688 met sy vrou Cecilia D'ATIS na SA gekom het op die Schelde vanaf Vlissingen in Nederland. In 1690 het hy finansiele hulp vir homself en 5 kinders ontvang. Hy het homself in 1692 gevestig te De Zoete Inval, Paarl, en is omstreeks 1695 oorlede, en het 3 seuns en 3 dogters nagelaat.[6]

Histoire des Du Preez 1050-1688
Le nom Du Preez signifie "qui habite près d’un pré ou d’un pâturage". La famille Du Preez d’Afrique du Sud a son origine dans la région entre l’Escaut et la Somme en Flandre. A l’origine ils épelaient leur nom Des Prez et aussi Des Pres.

Du Preez history 1050-1688
The meaning of the name Du Preez is "man from the house at the meadows". The Du Preez family originates from the region between the Schelde and Somme rivers in Flanders. They originally wrote the name as Des Prez and also Des Pres.[8][5]
The surname is in existence for more than 900 years. The earliest bearer of the surname was Lambert de Pre, born around 1050 and who was seneschal of Luik. His descendants inherited the surname. Another well known du Preez was the famous Renaissance composer,Josquin des Prez, 1440-1521."[1][citation needed]

Translated, the certificate reads:
We, minister and elders of the Walloon church of Vlissingen, certify herewith that Hercule des Pres and his wife openly professed the Reformed Faith and lived amongst us with increasing devoutness, attended the holy gatherings and participated in the Sacrement of the Holy Communion. We thus request our highly honoured brother-leaders of other churches to accept them as members of the church of Jesus Christ in the faith with which we signed this testimonial underneath our usual seal. Done during 'n church council meeting on this 11th day of the month February 1688 (signed) Lombard, Minister (Sign.) Daniel degroote, Elder on behalve of every one (on the church council)"[1][citation needed]
"Hercules, the Du Preez forefather, was married to Cecilia d'Atis[3][4] (1650-1720).[9][10] and died on 15 Nov 1720 in Soetendal Farm, Drakenstein, South Africa."[11][12] On April 18, 1690, Hercules des Prez received 510 Gulden from the Dutch East-Indian Company.[13][citation needed][12] He lived on the farm De Zoete Inval. (De Soete Inval), now Paarl station and east of it. The farm was promised to him in 1692 and formally allocated 15/10/1697. Hercules died in 1695 whereafter Cecilia D'Atis married Pierre Dumont.

Pierre [Robert], an agriculturist at Drakenstein, in 1700 married Cecilia D'Atis, widow of Hercules des Pres, Sr. She died 15th November, 1720, and was then living on the farm "Soetendal" in Drakenstein.[27][17][28][17]

See was born in 1643 in Leiden, Nederland and died 15 November 1720, in Paarl, South Africa.
