Biography

Married John Matthew Pettigrew 1 July 1882 in Nicholas County, WV. John was 28, Clarissa 21. Clarissa gives her birthplace as Butler Co. PA. Mr. Rippeto performed the ceremony.

She also gives her Butler County as the birthplace of her parents.

Clarissa is buried at Reed Cemetery, Clay Co. WV. Uncertain about John Matthew. Mrs. W. A. Bell was the informant on her death certificate. She died at age 85 of intestinal cancer.

Research

Attempting to locate the source of Clarissa, John, and their parents. I believe there is still substantial information and biographies of the Pettigrews and Daubenspecks available.

There were several Pettigrews living in and around Nicholas County in the 19th Century. I suspect they MAY have migrated down from Pennsylvania, but this is speculative at present.

A photograph exists online, source unknown, but can be located with a little effort. It's tagged "Hotel Central, Lookout, WV." A group of people are standing in the grass outside of large two-story building, and among those present are John & Clara (Daubenspeck) Pettigrew, Lizza (sic) Mae Erna (sic) Pettigrew, and Jacob and Sarah (Young) Daubenspeck. Not sure if Eliza is the daughter of Jacob and Sarah. I don't have access to this photo other than a poorly rendered thumbnail. A good copy might do wonders.
