Mary Davenport was born on 9 April 1779 in Tyrrell, North Carolina, daughter of Elkanah Davenport (~1758–~1785) and Rachel Wynn (~1758– ).

Mary married Dempsey Spruill (born in Tyrrell; son of Nehemiah Spruill and Susannah (Freeman) Spruill). Their known children were:

• Harriet Spruill (born 18 October 1800)

• Ann Caroline Spruill (born 23 February 1823)

Mary died on 10 January 1858 in Washington, North Carolina, United States, aged 78. She was buried in Spruill Family Cemetery, Creswell, Washington County, North Carolina.^[1]
