Richard Davenport, gentleman, of Wheltrough, Cheshire, was the son of Richard Davenport and his wife Anne Hamersley. He was recorded as age 10 at the time of the herald's visitation of Cheshire in 1613.[1]
His branch of the Davenport family is reported to have been seated at Wheltrough, near the village of Lower Withington in Cheshire, for several generations.[1][2]
He married Alice Burnes by licence in 1623. The licence dated 24 October 1623 was for the marriage at Congleton of "Rich'um Davenport Jun' de Wheltrough et Alicia Burnes spinster". The bondsman was Peter Williamson.[3][4]
Richard died in about 1664. An inventory of his personal estate dated 2 August 1664 described him as "Richard Davenport late of Wheltrough in the County of Chester gent deceased". The inventory was prepared by "John Leadbeater of the Hermitage Richard Davenport theld[er] and Richard Davenport the [younger] and Richard Oakes of Withington in the sayd County yeoman," His personal estate was valued at £175.[5]
A pedigree in East Cheshire: Past and Present (1880) states that he was possibly buried "at Holmes' Chapel, 17 Aug. 1664."[6]
