• Note the discrepancy between the 11 Apr date of death in the Indiana Death Index and the 2 Apr date on the headstone order.
• At FamilySearch, there is an image of a marriage return from the 1884 marriage in Brown County (different from the marriage record shown in the image on this page). It identifies Thomas' parents as John David and Morning Weddle (so-indexed by FamilySearch), and it says he was born in Jackson County, Indiana.

Thomas W David, pioneer farmer, is a native of Jackson County, Indiana and is the second child of five boys and five girls of John and Morning (Weddell) David, natives of Virginia. Our subject passed his early days on a farm, with a very limited education; was born September 8, 1827, and moved with his parents to this county in 1835, who settled on Bear Creek, where his father entered 140 acres, and remained until his death.

February 2, 1846, Thomas W David married Sarah E Tomey, to which union were born ten children - Adeline (deceased), Mary C, John E (deceased), Elizabeth, Serepta H, Willie, Daniel W, Lewis E, Silva V (deceased) and an infant. Ms [surely this should be Mrs?] David died October, 1822 [the 1822 date makes no sense: she was Sarah Estaline Tomey David, and she died Oct 1882, probably in Jackson Township, Brown County, Indiana, where the family lived at the time of the 1880 Federal Census], a member of the Christian Church, and February 2, 1884, Mr. David wedded Eliza Jane Hale, a native of East Tennessee.

In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company G, Twenty-seventh Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged after seventeen months' service, and resumed active farm life. He has several times been appointed School Director, and is an earnest Republican. Mr David moved to where he now lives on Lick Creek, in 1869, where he owns eighty-five acres in a good state of cultivation, well and variously improved, containing good buildings, orchards, etc., etc.^[1]

"Tackling your question about James Grimes' marriage to a child of Thomas & Sarah Estaline (Tomey) David - I have James married to their child, Willia Ann 'Willie' David who was born about 1868. Willia had a child by Charles Clagg; her son was raised by her sister Sereptha & brother-in-law Wash Crider as Vernon Ellsworth Crider. Willia then married James Grimes - the license has it as his marriage 3 & her marriage 2. I have not personally researched this family, but I read this information at the Brown County Library in one of the family books by the Reeves - the book about the David family."
