Biography

Mary Davie was born in 1860 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England to Michael Brown Davie and Mary (Nichol) Davie. Her birth was registered in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Nichol.[1]

In 1861 Mary Davis [Davie] (age 1) lived at High Friar Street in St Andrew, Newcastle upon Tyne with her father Michael (42, Cooper), mother Mary (42), and five siblings: John (18, Cooper), Ellen (15, Errand Girl), William (13, File Cutter), Robert (8, Scholar), and Isabella (4, Scholar).[2]

Mary's father Michael Brown Davie passed away in 1877.

Unable to locate Mary on the 1881 census - her mother and some siblings lived at Court Back Lane in Westgate, Northumberland: Mary Davie (62) with her children Ellen (35), Wm (33, Carrier), and Robt (27, Pavior).

Mary Davie (age 23, daughter of Michael Davie) married Otto Leopold Dumke (age 24, son of William Dumke) on 13 Jul 1884 in Elswick, Northumberland.[3] The marriage was registered in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the third quarter of the year.[4]

Mary and Otto had nine children:

In 1891 Mary Nunke [Dumke] (age 31) lived at Spring Street in Westgate with her husband Otto L (29, Tailor) and two sons: Otto L (5, Scholar) and William (1).[5]

In 1901 Mary Dumke (age 40) lived in Westgate with her husband Leopold (38, Tailor) and six children: Leopold (16, Apprentice Fitter & Turner), William (11), John (9), Jennie (7), Carl (3), and Eliza (0), as well as her mother Mary Davie (86).[6]

In 1911 Mary Dumke (age 50) lived in Westgate with her husband Lepold (50, Tailor) and five children: Otto (24, Labour Ordnance Armstrong), William (21, Labour), Carl (14, School), Jane (16, Labour Cartman Scot O Turner), and Liza (10, School).[7]

Mary's husband passed away in 1930: "DUMKE Otto Leopold of 16 Spring-street Newcastle-upon-Tyne died 21 June 1930 Probate Newcastle-upon-Tyne 23 August to Mary Dumke widow and Eliza Dumke spinster. Effects £327."[8]

Mary Dumke passed away on 16 Oct 1933, aged 73 years. Her death was registered in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the last quarter of the year.[9]

"DUMKE Mary of 16 Spring-street Newcastle-upon-Tyne widow died 16 October 1933 Probate Newcastle-upon-Tyne 15 November to Eliza Du[m]ke spinster. Effects £271."[10]
