Biography

Gwendolyn Sue Davies Brown passed away peacefully January 19, 2023. Gwen was born on June 4, 1942, in Williamsburg, Kentucky to Nathan and Elizabeth Davies. Gwen graduated from the University of Louisville in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science. While studying there, she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Gwen married Charles Harlan Brown, Jr. on June 15th, 1965 and they moved to the Washington, DC area where they raised their family in McLean, Virginia. Gwen worked as a preschool teacher for 21 years at Trinity Presbyterian Church Preschool and then became the Director of the school for 11 years until her retirement in 2005. Gwen greatly impacted the community in her role as an educational leader with immense respect from her parents, teachers, students, and the church which hosts the preschool. Gwen loved her family immensely and spent time with her kids and grandkids. She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Brown, Jr., son Charles H. Brown III; daughter, Cassandra Brown Walsh; grandsons Garrett Walsh and Alex Brown; granddaughters, Brittany Walsh, Heidi Brown, and Casey Brown; daughter in law Rachael Brown; son in law Brendan Walsh; nephew Joe Scheirich; and nieces Anna Scheirich, Elizabeth Chiaffredo, and Meredith Dieterle.
