Biography

2nd James Davies was the son of William Davies and his second wife Ann Howells. James was baptised in 1826 at Nolton parish church. James can be found on the 1841 census living at home with his parents, and six siblings. James married Martha Thomas of St Dogwells, at Nolton parish church in 1850, one of the witnesses was Charles Davies, James’s elder brother. By the time of the 1851 census the couple had a daughter Sophia, she was born in 1851 in the parish of St Dogwells. But as yet I have not found a baptism record of Sophia. We skip forward to the 1861 census, and find James, Martha and their daughter Sophia have moved to the adjoining parish of Roch, at a place called Trefarne, which is situated between Newgale, Roch and Nolton Haven. It was once a small hamlet, occupied manly by colliers working the nearby pits. But is mow a quiet backwater. With them at that address are two new additions to the family, these are Ann born 1858 and Louisa born 1860, both of Whom were born in the parish of Roch. The family are still in Roch parish, in 1871, the address is given as Cotts, meaning enclosure. As yet I have not been able to locate the exact position of this address. Sophia has left home and with James and Martha are, the two elder girls, Ann and Louisa, with the addition of four other children, these new additions are, Caroline (b 1862) Thomas (b 1866) Mary L (b 1869) and Elizabeth (b 1870) as yet I have not located any baptisms for any of James or Martha’s children, so I am assuming that the, either non-religious, the were members of a Methodist chapel. As yet I have not found either James or Martha beyond the 1871 census.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
