Biography
Joan and Gordon Evans met Gordon's mother Liz Davies Evans' cousin Evan Davies on one of their trips to Wales. The following is taken from notes made by Joan after their visit with Evan: - Evan was born in 1880. He was the son of Evan Davies (Sr) and the nephew of John Davies (Liz's father). - in June 1892, Evan remembers visiting his grandmother Catherine Evans Davies at Hernstone Farm with his father. Evan's uncle John Davies and his wife Sarah (Crocombe) married in April of 1892, and were living at the farm at the time. They sold milk in town. - in 1897, Evan was working in Bridgend when John and Sarah and their three daughters visited him there. At the time, they were living at Coedy Brain farm in Llanbradach and Grandma Catherine Evans Davies was in her late 70s. - Evan went to Grandma Davies funeral at Llanbradach in 1899 with his sister Mary. He also went to John Davies' funeral in 1901. - Aunt Elizabeth* tried to get in touch with John and Sarah Davies' three girls after their mother Sarah Crocombe Davies Eustace died in 1911. When Liz Davies Evans went out to Hernstone Farm to visit about 1916, her Aunt Elizabeth was ill but she met her cousin Hannah (and a sister?). - Cousin Evan finally got in touch with Liz Davies Evans after trying for years, and they kept in touch until he died at age 93 in 1973. Evan visited Lizzie when she was hospitalized in Newport in 1963. Lizzie's husband Arthur Evans said that Evan was 84 years old and 'very Welsh'. He had a stepdaughter. [1].
