William Davies was born in Leicestershire, England.

William Davies was killed in the Whitwick Colliery Gob Fire on 19-Apr-1898

William Davies was born in 1869. He was the son of William Davies and Sarah (Wardle). [1][2][3]

In 1881, William Davis (sic) was living with his parents, Willm. (45) and Sarah (39) and four siblings including John Jas. Davis (age 15, working in a brickyard). [4]

William Davies of Pegg's Green, the son of William Davies was married to Sarah Clifford of Silver Street, Whitwick, the daughter of Thomas Clifford, on 3rd February 1892 at St John the Baptist church, Whitwick. [5]

William Davies and his brother, John James died on 19th April 1898 in the Whitwick Colliery No. 5 Pit fire, which killed 35 men and boys. The body of William's brother, John James was never recovered. Their father's gravestone at Griffydam Methodist Graveyard tells of his sons' deaths in the tragedy. [6][7][8]
