Biography

Clara was a Civil War Nurse.

Clara was born in Canada, 1841. Clara was the first wife of Edward Abbott. They had three children.

During the US Civil War, Clara was an agent of the United States Sanitary Commission and a nurse. She worked on the steamship "John Brooks" with Mary Morris Husband during the Peninsula Campaign of 1862 transporting wounded soldiers. Clara was at Mile Creek Hospital and was noted working at Frederick City, Harper's Ferry, and Antietam. Miss Davis worked at Camp Parole, Annapolis, Maryland from March 1863 until the fall of that year when she contracted typhoid which effectively ended her nursing efforts.

Clara died on 25 May 1882 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was laid to rest in the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. [1]
