Walter Goodwin Davis, (Jr.) was born the 14th May 1885, Portland, Cumberland, Maine, United States to parents Walter Goodwin Davis and Mary Howard (Wildes) Davis. He died in 1966.[1][2][3]
Walter graduated from Yale University and completed his LL.D. from the Harvard School of Law. For a time he practiced law in New York City but found his "calling" in genealogical research and spent the remainder of his life as an author and professional genealogist in Portland, Maine. He served as president of the Maine Historical Society for almost twenty-five years. Throughout, he was an active member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society (the NEHGS).[4]
Walter Goodwin Davis was considered Maine's foremost genealogist.[5]
